CEM – Kissing in the name

April 21st, 2017 (Berlin, Germany) — Berlin-based music producer CEM has released his first official EP through Sariton Records: “Kissing in the name“. The worldwide digital release takes place on April 21st, 2017 and is supported by the aggregator Feiyr. CEM’s message is as simple as it is important: Heartfelt music connects and conciliates people. This message is especially precious in times of global tension, hatred and post-factual news.

“I can’t do big politics, but I feel like I have to“, says Cem bluntly. He suggests: “Kissing in the name of unity is way better than killing in the name of religion and economic interests.” As a Turkish immigrant Cem is especially moved by the recent anti-democratic developments in his homeland Turkey.

Cem is an accomplished producer of EDM styles like Ambient, Electronica and Deep House, but has also a deep love for handmade music with guitar, bass and drums. Arno Raffeiner, editor-in-chief of influential German Spex Mag, wrote about Cem’s approach to making music: “A very charming mixture of guitar-influenced music and electronic sounds and patterns. The joy of playing and singing is felt in every track.” The title track is – of course – inspired by the political and timeless guitar classic from RATM: “Killing in the name“.
Kissing in the name contains four genuine and fresh tracks of electronic dance music, soulfully mixed with eclectic styles. In addition to the title track Digitally Yours, Wake Me Up If It Is Friday and Comatose are presented on the EP.

About CEM
CEM [d???m] is a Berlin-based music producer and a dedicated family man. “Kissing in the name“ is his first official and worldwide digital release. Cem was born in Istanbul, Turkey. At the age of 15 he started singing and playing drums, guitar and bass. He got in fast with the fascinating music scene of the Turkish metropolis. Cem is completely self-taught and is a multi-instrumentalist. In 1997 he migrated to Berlin to study computer linguistics and media design. For many years he has played and toured with the multicultural band “Everkeen” and contributed rough vocal energy and sing-along tunes.

Apart from writing and producing music, Cem is working at the Berlin Club SO36. This club has often been compared to New York’s CBGB. Cem lives and breathes the creative spirit of the club, which has always envisioned itself as a crossover between music, sub culture and visual art. Consequently Cem also produces his own music videos to generate a coherent artistic vision of political consciousness and honest music.

Nicky Romero Remixes Linkin Park’s “Heavy” ft. Kiiara

Nicky Romero unveils his masterfully crafted remix of Linkin Park’s latest hit single ‘Heavy’ featuring Kiiara, out now on Warner Bros. Records.

Played at this year’s Ultra Music Festival in Miami as Nicky Romero closed down the Worldwide Stage to incredible fanfare, his remix of ‘Heavy’ ft. Kiiara is set to become one of the quintessential records to be played throughout this festival season.

Channeling the distinct and stunning vocals of Kiiara and those of Chester Bennington, Linkin Park’s frontman, Nicky manages to keep the introductory melody intact before quickly diving into a future bass driven remix laden with euphoric synths and vocal chops that truly update the record to dancefloor status. This latest offering is testament to Nicky Romero’s expansive range in production value as he continues to test and push the confines within new genres. Combined with Linkin Park’s consistent knack for experimenting in new territories of sounds and songwriting, it’s no wonder why Nicky Romero was the perfect fit for official remix duties.

MANIC FOCUS – Minds Rising

Minds Rising is an infectious encapsulation of Manic Focus’ roots in funk, soul, new-era hip hop, and electronic music. The album is an artful curation of the burgeoning Chicago music landscape and beyond, featuring appearances from cutting-edge hip hop artists, vocalists, producers, and musicians from across the country. Minds Rising is an opus two years in the making, and paints an aural illustration of Manic Focus’ shift from producer to composer — one beat, instrument and verse at a time.

Minds Rising features collaborations with a stacked roster of talented musicians, including the percussive genius of Adam Deitch (Lettuce, Break Science), powerful vocals of Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band), and meticulous production of Late Night Radio, who all join forces on the album’s soulful lead single, “Stronger.” ProbCause lays down heavy bars on the trap anthem “Putting All Of My People On.” Russ Liquid backs “Habit” with a funky New Orleans style three-piece horn section, while emerging hip hop group the RapperChicks deliver witty, earth-shattering verses and a captivating chorus to round out the track. Brooklyn based musicians Exmag and Borahm Lee (Lowtemp Music, Break Science) harmonize on “Your X Now” to bring space jazz rhythms and twinkling piano elements to Manic Focus’ stellar composition. Other collaborations include features from future bass producer Psymbionic on “Pushing,” rising Chicago stars Statik on “Stochastic Resonance,” Carlile on “Timeless,” and the razor sharp lyricism of Chicago rapper Psalm One on “Joy In the Noise.”

New Music: Californian singer-songwriter Ed Prosek releases “Tear It All Down”, first single from upcoming EP

Californian singer-songwriter Ed Prosek releases “Tear It All Down”, the first taste of his upcoming EP Flesh & Blood (due out May). Recorded in Berlin, the artist has flipped the perspective from his previous work, with his new output yielding a much darker, heavier sound. Prosek brings together his singer songwriter roots and a more complex exploration of raw sound, instrumentation and arrangement.

Inspired, in part, by post-apocalyptic 2009 film, The Road, Tear It All Down tells a story of perseverance, but ultimately hopelessness. Borne out through both the lyrical themes and the music itself, it’s as if the very weight of the sound of the chorus is the burden of uncertainty carried by us all, and the emptiness of the verses, the stark and brutal void of the calm before the storm. The fear of the unknown is a palpable presence within the song.

Prosek’s evolution from acoustic singer songwriter to this new direction has been a natural progression through both his personal growth as an artist, and a reflection of a less certain world.
