Rogerio Martins unleashes ‘300 EP’ for Piston Recordings’ landmark release

Portugal’s cutting edge electronic music label Piston Recordings reaches a double milestone in 2017 as it celebrates 10 years as well as its 300th release. To mark this occasion we get a dosing of Deep House grooves on the two-track ‘300 EP’ courtesy of label head honcho, Rogerio Martins. Since 2007 Rogerio has showed true grit and determination to get his label to where it is today, at the forefront of a worldwide scene where the sounds of Piston are championed by a multitude of top DJs. The Piston ethos has been embraced by many artists and the demand is ever more popular and artists from around the world delight at the prospect of releasing their material through Piston which is why there is a consistent stream of quality cuts. Here’s to another 300 releases and another 10 years!

‘No Gimmicks’ intros with a solid kick drum and cool shuffling hat arrangement that gets the rhythm flowing nicely before a super bright crispy hi hat joins in. A superb dancing, chunky bassline delivers a killer blow that will definitely get feet to the floors. Rogerio dishes out a real treat here, especially with the huge filtered piano chords that will attract the discerning clubber if only for its nostalgic appeal. A diva inspired vocal wails through the track beautifully making this an absolute stomper and a must have.

Secondly we have the deliciously warm and endearing ‘Find The Love’ which intros with nice subby kick drums and a crispy hi hat combo. Smooth house chords fade in and we soon find ourselves engrossed in a lush groove. The track delivers a solid rhythmic flow thanks to tight drums and percussions while cool vocals bring in a clubby vibe. The bass resides deep within the sound here and will certainly give the bassbins a bit of work to do. A definite dancefloor contender here you do not want to miss.

Llorca announces new album ‘The Garden’ + video for new single ‘You’

The ‘French Touch’ excited listeners in the late Nineties and early Noughties. Combining influences from Soul, Jazz, Latin and African music with chic electronics, artists such as St. Germain, Laurent Garnier, Daft Punk and Llorca delivered deep sounding delights to discerning audiences in clubs and at parties all over the world.

Llorca (christened Lludovic Llorca and also known as Art of Tones) is now stepping back into the scene with a new album entitled ‘The Garden’ and a decidedly different sound. Excellent songwriting and production is underpinned with gritty grooves displaying mature Funk overtones, topped off with guest appearances from a host of superb singers. Some are well known, including Georg Levin of Berlin based Sonar Kollektiv, Parisian Soul queen Laetitia Dana, plus the New York pairing of Drum’n’Bass/House vocalist Frank H. Carter III and R&B/Soul artist Halley Hiatt, while a host of newcomers include Mawogani Wood, Stefan Frank, Sapele and Michael Barthelemy. Each help to seed ‘The Garden’ and make it a melodic treasure trove that grows with each listen, blooming from great songs into future classics – this is surely Llorca’s best music to date.

Having made his home in the deep south of France, close to the Spanish border and far away from the hustle and bustle of Paris, Llorca has directed his artistic career according to the paths he has taken in his personal life. The internationally renowned DJ, producer and songwriter built a studio in Perpignan that has become his sacred place to make music the way he always wanted to – a soundscape incorporating his many musical passions from Soul to Funk to Electronica to Deep House. Following the success of ‘Newcomer’ in 2001 (released on the legendary F Communications label (Mr.Oizo, Laurent Garnier, Saint-Germain, etc), he embarked on four years of touring with his band, which included playing some of the biggest music festivals in the world.

Taking a step back from the limelight and into the clubs with his Electro alter-ego Art of Tones, this self-taught lover of Disco and Soul music of the 70’s who at 14 was making his first foray into music on a Commodore 64, dedicated an incredible fifteen years to making this second album. A record to simultaneously move the feet and engage the mind, the ten songs that made it onto ‘The Garden’ certainly show off the artistic maturity and relevance of the musical mastermind behind them.

Leaving the world of lounge Jazz and sensory House music of his first album behind, ‘The Garden’ dazzles the listener with the purity of its songwriting, the deep thought behind its lyrics, the elegance of its string arrangements and the Funk mastery of its basslines. The album also charms via the ease with which each guest singer becomes one with the music, becoming increasingly addictive with each listen and revealing a wide range of emotions – from the joyful ‘You’ and ‘All We Ever Have’ to the sensuous ‘Addiction Days’, ‘Wonder Why’, ‘All Right’ and beyond. The whole is most certainly larger than the sum of its parts, intertwining and combining into one mindblowing, breathtaking suite. Welcome to Chapter 2 of Llorca’s musical story….welcome to ‘The Garden’.

LLORCA – BIOGRAPHY
Ludovic Llorca is a musician who spent his youth in the north of France, learning how to make music with computers (Commodore 64 and Amiga). After releasing a couple of techno / house 12 inch singles on small labels, he signed an artist contract (as Llorca) in 1997 with the domestic record company F Communications, releasing three EP’s followed by the album ‘Newcomer’. Released in 2001, it sold 200,000 copies and its huge success led to him touring the world for the next four years with his band and guest singers, performing in prestigious venues and at well known festivals such Montreux, Nice, Vienne, Den Haag and Les Vieilles Charrues.

After releasing a multi-genre mix compilation (‘My Playlist’) for Wagram Records in 2005, Ludovic began focusing on remix work for labels such as 2020Vision, Freerange, Compost Black, Brique Rouge, Music Man and Chez Records. His efforts were rewarded with critical acclaim and appearances on noteworthy compilations (eg. Fabric 33). Contacted by French DJ and producer Claude Monnet to join his Back To Fundamentals compilation stable, Ludovic released the track ‘Insatiable’ (featuring singer Tanya Michelle) under the pseudonym Miamik. He also began composing for TV commercials and websites, working with brands such as Chanel, Guerlain, Hennessy, Boucheron and Yves Saint-Laurent.

Ludovic’s most electronic and edgy project Art Of Tones ignited in 2006 with a series of EP’s for 2020Vision. Thanks to ‘Praise’ and ‘Call The Shots (featuring Jaw)’, AOT received immediate positive feedback from big-name DJ’s and license requests for a plethora of prestige compilations (Xpress 2 for NRK’s ‘Coast 2 Coast’, Francois K for Ministry Of Sound’s ‘Masterpiece’ series, the ‘Renaissance : The Masters’ series, and more). A little later, ‘The World As I Live It’ EP for the Hamburg-based label Room With A View received praise from DJ’s such as Atjazz and Jimpster, while the ensuing ‘Too Much’ was ranked among Resident Advisor’s ‘Most Played Tracks’ of 2011.

Further releases on the respected Local Talk and We Play House Recordings labels topped dance charts for months, while a new collaboration with Tanya Michelle was released on DFTD (a subsidiary of Defected) and AOT’s ‘Elephants’ and ‘Unstopped’ EP were issued on Fred Everything’s Lazy Days label. In 2015, AOT’s ‘The Rainbow Song’ was a massive House hit; with multiple playlists and club chart placings, it was Local Talk’s best selling title to date.

2016 saw Ludovic make a new EP for The House Of Disco Records label entitled ‘Devil The Difference’ (following the vinyl-only ‘Unlimited Love’), while he also remixed Mona Lazette for Toytonic.

The spring of 2017 will see the long awaited release of a second Llorca album on Membran Records. Entitled ‘The Garden’, it will be preceded by the singles ‘Waiting’ and ‘You’.
