Bakermat releases ‘Baby’

Dutch DJ/producer Bakermat has revealed his new single, ‘Baby’, out now via Dirty Soul/B1 Recordings/Ultra Music.

Bursting with energy, ‘Baby’ flaunts hard-hitting drum patterns and a driving bassline, surrounded by a soaring female vocal. Warm piano chords and the Dutch producer’s signature saxophone hook later come into the fore, adding a melodic element to the track.

Recognised for his uplifting house style, Lodewijk Fluttert better known as Bakermat has helped establish the house sound in dance music. His single ‘One Day (Vandaag)’ has amassed over 47 million Spotify plays, peaked in the Top 5 of several European singles charts and went platinum in Germany. Bakermat sampled the vocals of Grammy Award winning singer Shirley Caesar for his follow up single, ‘Teach Me’. Premiered by BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong, the lively track gained over 20 million Spotify plays and was later reworked by revered American producer, MK. His recent single ‘Living’, features the rich vocal styles of British singer/songwriter Alex Clare.

In 2015, he launched his ‘Bakermat’s Circus’ live show, which saw the Dutch DJ sell out 2 dates at London’s Electric Brixton. Bakermat has since toured his circus-themed sets in New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Brazil and Malta. He has also played at numerous illustrious festivals including Tomorrowland, CRSSD Festival and SW4, as well as playing coveted Ibiza residencies alongside David Guetta and Kygo.

GOLDFISH FEAT. JULIA CHURCH “HEART SHAPED BOX”

Reworking any Nirvana track is a risky business – akin to tampering with a musical holy grail – but when it’s done well it can create a truly mind-blowing piece of house music, which is exactly what South African duo Goldfish have done with “Heart Shaped Box”.

Already winning a swathe of top flight DJ support, the remake features 18-year-old Cape Town native Julia Church on vocals and sees Dom Peters and Dave Poole crafting a new future house-influenced bass line to their trademark sound of organic instrumentals. Her mature voice lilts effortlessly over muted organs and swelling synths, giving the lyrics body and strength that work with, not against, full-bodied piano and saxophone sections.

Out today on iTunes worldwide and scheduled for an October 30th Beatport release, “Heart Shaped Box” will no doubt form a pivotal part of Goldfish’s performance tonight at the legendary De Overkant in Amsterdam. The Live In Amsterdam event, one of the must-see parties on the ADE circuit, sold out two weeks ago underlining the huge demand to catch a glimpse of Goldfish. In recent months their popularity has soared, with punishing club and festival tours putting them firmly on the map in the notoriously hard-to-crack US market.

With two more dates left Stateside – Ghost Ship Halloween in San Francisco on October 30th and Suwannee Hulaween in Live Oak FL on October 31st – the band will also headline at London’s Electric Brixton on October 17th before traveling to the Czech Republic to perform at Club Freda in Brno (October 23rd) and Prague’s Akropolis (October 24th). Fans back in South Africa won’t have to wait long to see their award-winning, chart-topping heroes in action either. Goldfish return to Cape Town on November 29th to start their annual and hotly anticipated Submerged Sundays residency at Shimmy Beach Club.

Goldfish remake Nirvana’s Heart Shaped Box

After wowing the US festival and club circuit with performances at Ultra Music Festival Miami, KAABOO, Northern Nights, Electric Forest, Red Rocks and more, MTV and SAMA Award-winning house band Goldfish bring their “(LIVE)” show to Amsterdam and London – just in time for the release of brand new single “Heart Shaped Box” this October.

The track, a remake of the Nirvana classic which features new talent 18-year-old Julia Church on vocals, sees Dom Peters and Dave Poole add a new future house-influenced bassline to their usual sound – a DJ-friendly move that drives the single towards radio and club dance floors the world over.

Lilting effortlessly over the energetic production, Church’s mature vocal gives the piece luxurious depth. Muted organs and swelling synths build through to upbeat claps and piano stabs, before exploding into that bassline and full-bodied piano and saxophone sections, the familiar trademark of Goldfish’s world-renowned sound. “Heart Shape Box” is arguably the most commercial track Goldfish have released in a while, yet in equal measures catchy, uplifting and exhilarating it stays true to the analogue magic that Poole and Peters inject in huge doses to all their work.

The single is bound to feature heavily in both their ADE showcase at De Overkant on October 16th and their hugely anticipated London show at Electric Brixton on October 17th. The Netherlands in particular has been a hotbed of Fishy fandom for the past decade but the British capital is swiftly catching up. ADE support comes in the shape of Alle Farben, Sam Feldt, Michael Calfan, Lost Frequencies, Vintage Culture, DIMMI and Cat Carpenters, with Dutch legend Bakermat co-hosting what is sure to be a sell-out event. London sees Cleavage (Live), DIMMI and Jolyon lining up alongside Goldfish, with more acts to be announced over the coming weeks.
