International Chart-Topper Imany Premieres Video for Her Global Hit “Don’t Be So Shy” (Filatov & Karas Remix)

The global chart topper is off Imany’s second studio albumThe Wrong Kind of War which will be released in the US March 10th via Ultra Records. The original version of the song was originally recorded for French film, Sous Les Jupes des Filles. Says Imany, “The song was written for a specific scene when 2 women were about to make love for the first time. One of the two was very insecure. The song Is about dropping the layers that prevent you from being yourself.” Of the remix, Imany says, it’s more playful, maybe a little more literal. The video aims to convey a feeling of freedom – the two women are isolated from the world and safe together. “It’s about being brave enough to love who you want to love any way you want to love them. At the end of the day it all comes down to being yourself, and feeling FREE to be yourself. That’s the message behind the video.”

Imany’s second album The Wrong Kind of War was released in 2016 in Europe and charted Top 10 in France. Her first album The Shape of a Broken Heart was released in 2011 and earned multi-platinum status in several European countries. Imany is currently touring and promoting the new album.

Joakim drops new track and video for ‘Numb’, announces 4th LP

Today, one of France’s foremost electronic producers Joakim announces his 4th album, Samurai, by sharing a brand new track and accompanying video for ‘Numb’.

Evoking the ideas of transformation, ambiguity and artifice vs nature, the Adrian Yu directed music video appropriates and makes a parody of the YouTube phenomenon of make-up tutorials. Partially shot with a cheap 90s camcorder, the video also nods to the Japanese tradition of Kabuki make-up which inspired the cover art work for Samurai.

A very personal and conceptual body of work, Joakim’s forthcoming Samurai is about the artist’s journey between NY, Tokyo and Paris. In writing, Joakim was inspired by a range of influences from the literary (Mishima’s ‘Hagakure: Samurai Ethics & Modern Japan’), to the sonic (home-made electronic and “new age”’ style music) and the circumstantial (Japan and New York).

Samurai is out via Tigersushi / Because on 17th March, 2017.

Superpoze new album + U.S. live dates

“For We The Living” is my second album.
It is inspired by readings, films and works concerned with natural disasters, with the fascination man harbours for its own finitude and with the eschatological discourse more broadly.
The album is divided in two parts. The first 4 tracks broach the impending disaster, its development and climax (represented in the track “Thousand Exploding Suns”). The 4 following tracks symbolize the aftermath.
Despite strong narrative influences coming from contemporary cinema (Jeff Nichols, Lars Von Trier…), this album doesn’t pretend to be anything else but music. It is not the soundtrack of an imaginary film. It’s a narrative object in itself.
The album is entirely instrumental, except for the pre-conclusive “A Photograph” on which I collaborated with the very talented Dream Koala. Piano and drums were intentionally recorded in a vast room with open windows, to connect the music to the sensible – human – world and avoid of an “overproduced” sound. In the same way, all piano takes evoke my own breath. We can clearly hear it on “Hidden” and “A Photograph”.
The album is associated with a series of videos and a booklet for which I chose to work with artists’ collective Television*.
Videos capture moments suggesting the imminence and occurrence of the disaster, in connection with the 4 first tracks.
Following the model of archaeological surveys, the booklet mirrors the second part of the album, and the track “A Photograph” in particular.

Mason Rubinstein, Jules Wells – Revolutionary Time

Hijacked Records Detroit is proud to open 2017 with this release. We continue to explore that French connection we’ve been delving into lately and remain pleasantly surprised with the talent we’re finding. Mason Rubinstein and Jules Wells have put together an incredible and truly moving release. Each track has been produced by the pair working together and what came out of that was a beautiful thing. The ep opens with a track called “Resurrection.” Think Octave One meets Los Hermanos. Powerful and dark but also invigorating; like what hope might sound like. This track is transcendental and uplifting.

The next track is the title track, “Revolutionary Time.” This is another really esoteric piece that if you weren’t naturally physically moving to the beat, you could very well end up on the brink of tears, feeling overwhelmed in an unfathomable atmosphere of light. The last track is Mason and Jules’ “Revolutionary Time Extended Vocal Mix.” The vocal on this track is a speech given by Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. While the speech has inspiring moments, it is a stark reminder of how little progress we have made since King’s passing, and how far we still have to go. These words still ring true to this day. Hearing King’s words on this track made it that much more profound and formidable.

We’ve been so impressed with the talent we’ve tapped into in France. These guys are really channeling that Detroit emotion; that Detroit spirit. What makes their work of such high quality is that it’s 100% genuine, coming from a truly authentic place. Not only have we synced up with some artists in the same musical headspace as us, but we are connecting on a social, political, and cultural level. This comes through in their music and we can’t wait to hear more!

Bellorum Drops Latest Orignal – “Waste”

Kungs debut album ‘Layers’ is out today!

Breakthrough artist Kungs has announced the release of his debut album, ‘LAYERS’. Forthcoming on the 4th November, the album follows the chart-topping success story of previous singles ‘This Girl’ and ‘Don’t You Know’ from the young French talent.

An avid music fan and brimming with ideas, Kungs built in plenty of studio time whilst touring to create this debut LP. Full of collaborations, ‘LAYERS’ explores Kungs’ various musical moods and inspirations.

First single ‘Melody’ sets the tone for the album. A collaboration with Luke Pritchard of The Kooks, the single was based just on a guitar chord tab, a bassline and a beat and was finished within a day. It’s followed up with well-known singles ‘This Girl’ and ‘Don’t You Know’, before the more reflective ‘You Remain’ featuring Ritual.

Meanwhile, the distinctive vocals of Wolfgang Valbrun – from one of Kungs’s favourite bands, Ephemerals – feature on the uplifting ‘Freedom’ and catchy ‘I Feel So Bad’, whilst Judge appears on the melancholic ‘Crazy Enough’.

Female vocalists also add a new dimension to the Kungs sound, on ‘Trust’, ‘Bangalore Streets’ and ‘Tripping Off’ (Rae Morris, Freia and Lune respectively.)

‘LAYERS’ is an apt name for this release; the overall sound perfectly demonstrates Kungs’ fusion of influences. From blues, soul and rock to house, Kungs takes elements of each to form his distinctive, likeable sound. Live brass choruses, acoustic guitar, piano, soulful voices and gentle basslines come together in varied combinations to reflect different emotions – the sign of a true musician.

The release of ‘LAYERS’ comes after what was, needless to say, a whirlwind year for Kungs. Aside from the huge success of his debut singles, he’s come off the back of incredible summer of touring, with 60 gigs in 12 countries. This debut LP is only the beginning of a bright future for this talented young artist.

About Kungs
Hailing from the South of France, 19 year old Valentin Brunel had been obsessed with music for many years before he shot to fame with ‘This Girl’. It reached no1 in France within a month before going on to hit no1 in 39 other countries; it has now amassed 300 million streams, 130 million views, 10 million Shazams, 1.5 million downloads and an adjusted figure of 4 million singles. His follow-up, ‘Don’t You Know’ ft Jamie N Commons is now building on the global success of its predecessor.

Despite his young age, Kungs has been working on his music for many years. Having began by learning the Djembe as a child, Kungs experimented with a number of other instruments having discovered soul and funk from his parent’s record collection. Growing up, he also listened to blues and rock before spending hours teaching himself Ableton live whilst still in school, forging a new love for house music. His very first tracks on Soundcloud received an overwhelmingly positive reaction, and soon he was getting official remix requests – his Lost Frequencies remix clocked up 30 million streams on Soundcloud and near double that on YouTube.

Fast forward a year and Kungs is now globally renowned for his musical talents and perfectly positioned to release his first LP effort.

Kungs releases new single ‘I Feel So Bad’ // Debut album ‘Layers’ is out 4th November

Kungs has just released the third single from his debut album, entitled ‘Feel So Bad’.

The track features the vocals of Wolfgang Valbrun, the lead singer of Ephemerals. He came to collaborate with Kungs after he’d heard one of the band’s tracks and immediately got in touch with the singer; Wolfgang also features on one other track from the upcoming album, ‘Freedom’.

The pair’s efforts clearly paid off; ‘I Feel So Bad’ perfectly showcases Kungs’ fusion of classic blues, rock and jazz instrumentation with danceable beats, with the guitar melody complementing Valbrun’s husky vocals.

The single is set to build even more anticipation for debut album ‘LAYERS’, which is due for release on the 4th November. The aptly-titled LP draws on a wide range of influences, taking in live brass choruses, acoustic guitar, piano, soulful voices and gentle basslines in varied combinations to reflect different emotions.
