NEW TRACK + VIDEO: Barclay Crenshaw shares ‘The Real X-Files’ featuring Lady Chann taken from forthcoming debut album
Hot on the heels of his debut mixtape, Barclay Crenshaw kicks off 2017 with his third single “The Real X-Files”, featuring the instantly recognizable and raw vocals of Lady Chann, taken from his forthcoming self-titled debut album out January 27, 2017.
Staying true to otherworldly experiences portrayed on the album, the video shot and directed by The Bow (Markus Hofko), is a journey through North Africa’s desert creating an epic visual for ancient alien abductions and explorations of time and space.
The enchanting Lady Chann appears in the video with an ominous cloak using mystical powers to control mysterious shape shifting orbs while taking the track to a whole new level with her grime riddims and sultry voice.
The self-titled debut album is a left-field departure from his better-known alias, Claude VonStroke, and sounds like a mixture of gold rope chains and new age enlightenment. Modern organic beats mixed with gorgeous melodic moments and a fair bit of grit create an experience that is eclectic, expressive and expansive. Coded art furthers the sense of mystery and the unknown, harking to the past while searching into the future. Guests include a wide array of artists, from Mr. Carmack to Brainfeeder affiliates The Underachievers and even a Cool Kids reunion with Chuck Inglish and Sir Michael Rocks.
Barclay will accompany the album with a 11-date debut US tour kicking off at LA’s Low End Theory and making stops in Miami, New York, Chicago and more.
North and South America collide in this collaboration of epic proportions. Brazilian Danilo Ercole is back on Create, this time producing alongside New York’s finest, Mike Saint-Jules.
Straight off the launch pad, there’s a sense of speed as the ‘Mars Rover’ hurtles toward the breakdown zone. The crisp beats and percussion give way to an initially tranquil drop. A classic-esque chord sequence starts to amplify the tension and by the end of the break you’re yearning for the solid, stab-filled drop that follows.
On the flip side, Mike delivers an extra module to the release. ‘Mars Rover’ goes interstellar in the form of a deeper bubbling feast of electronica.
There’s plenty more discoveries to look forward to from both of these artists on Create, keep your ears open in the New Year.

DJ, producer and #TheftArmy frontman Party Thieves has officially announced an Australian Residency for 2017 at Pacha and The Met, making him one of the first American DJs to conquer this territory.
The New York-based producer (real name Jared McFarlin) will be traveling Down Under every two months to booth up at famed Aussie nightclubs Pacha Sydney and The Met in Brisbane, as well as a handful of other venues around the continent. Party Thieves is set to headline his own shows for the debut run, but his international residency will eventually expand into his own curated night featuring handpicked artists from around the world.
To celebrate this major career milestone as well as reaching 100K followers on SoundCloud and thank his loyal #TheftArmy fans for continuous support, Party Thieves put together an exclusive 30-minute ‘100K #TheftArmy mix.’ Sticking true to his namesake party-starting style, Party Thieves blends his original tracks with fresh remixes of some of his favorite heavy-hitting tunes to create an upbeat, bass-fueled concoction. Representative of today’s modern electronic landscape and fusing sounds from across genres, Jared samples a variety of vocals, slashing synths, and dirty trap beats to create a fiery pump-up mix guaranteed to get you going.
If that’s not enough to celebrate, the party don also sold out the renowned Belasco Theatre in LA earlier this month — marking one of his most successful shows to date. A solo artist from New York, Party Thieves has swiftly made his presence known in the dance community by producing massive remixes and originals that have garnered support from artists such as RL Grime, Skrillex, Diplo, TJR, Adventure Club and Flosstradamus, just to name a few.
Party Thieves also made his presence known beyond the electronic realm when a video of his Mannequin Challenge at his show with Mashd N Kutcher at Pacha Sydney went viral, hitting over 1.6 million views on Facebook alone.

Broadcaster and writer Tony Minvielle returns with part two of his highly acclaimed compilation series. As with the successful Volume One, which made the iTunes Jazz Chart Top 6, this one will not disappoint. Through his now legendary FoldedSpace radio show on SoulandJazz.com and his writing and broadcasting experience, which includes Jazz FM, WCLK Atlanta and Straight No Chaser Magazine, he has built a reputation in Europe and the US as one of this scenes leading musical tastemakers. These 11 breath taking musical journeys cover a multitude of musical genres from the soulful to the cinematic and contain two epic exclusives composed especially for this set from musical heavyweights Kaidi Tatham and Marc Cary. All in all this collection rightly reflects his love of great music and his eagerness to share that love with all who will listen.
The collection opens with the gifted, Brisbane based, vocalist / composer Jordan Rakei whose sublime falsetto vocals and deep soulful production sets the tone for the rest of the album. This is followed by a dizzying two step/ fusion killer from the legendary UK keyboardist Kaidi Tatham (Bugz In The Attic / Tatham, Mensah, Lord & Ranks) which he has produced especially for this compilation. Up next is US jazz legend Carmen Lundy, a contemporary of Dee Dee Bridgewater and Dianne Reeves. The inclusion of this beautiful bossa driven masterpiece, has really got this collection lit.
We then visit Peru for a track by a gifted and talented Lima based singer, songwriter and saxophonist Carolina Araoz (Jazz Jaus / Snarky Puppy) who provides us with a lush laidback production that will be instantly adored. Two time Grammy award winning british keyboardist Bill Laurance (Snarky Puppy) delivers a truly cinematic spellbinding opus originally on his debut set ‘Flint’ accompanied by Robert ‘Sput’ Searight, drummer on ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ and Snarky bass player Michael League. The following track is by the superb New York based jazz/R&B vocalist / songwriter Melissa McMillan, who is currently wowing the NYC with her striking vocal styling’s.
Chicago based ensemble Sidewalk Chalk excite with their live vibrant jazz / hip-hop mash-up – a completely infectious affair. The pianist / composer from L.A. Daniel Crawford sets out his stall with a percussion driven belter with that added bonus of Vikter Duplais on vocals. One of the drummers of our generation the UK’s Richard Spaven (Flying Lotus / Guru / Sure Co.) gives us something unique from his ‘Whole Other’ set with The Hics on vocals. German producer Lars Bartkuhn specializes in the more intricate side of the genre with a track laden with jazz, Brazilian, soul, and funk influences. This uptempo groove really hits the musical sweet spot. The compilation is rounded off with keyboard jazz legend Marc Cary (Abbey Lincoln / Focus Trio / Revive Music-Blue Note Records) who delves into the twisted funk world with a Curtis Mayfield inspired classic produced especially for this compilation.
