Bringing forth a soulful, human brand of infectiously danceable house music, Noktiluc makes a powerful introduction with his Los Caminos EP. Shades of modern tech-house blend with myriad personal influences, from Atahualpa Ypanqui, to Biggie, to Bill Evans shine through in fascinating ways. A 20-minute journey that bears taking a break to listen with full attention.

Close listens reveal unique vocal samples (including laugther and breathing), creating a deeply intimate and inviting soundscape. A stroke of genius in any genre, but a must-hear for fans of Joris Voorn, Nic Fanciulli, and similar.

William B – Strobe (EP) // Out Now On Afterwave Records // Techno

NYC’s William B debuts with Strobe, an ultra-dark 3-track techno EP that begs late night play. Functional rhythms flirt with experimental inclinations in a sprawling three track collection that makes for essential winter-time listening. Eponymous “Strobe” sets the tone with dark textures, while “Work” brings house-style vocal samples to hard-hitting techno rhythm, before “I Like It” sprawls to a six-minute crescendo. Equal parts a listening experience and vibrant, soulful techno for the discerning DJ. Out now on all platforms via Afterwave Records.

“The Strobe EP is about coming together and celebrating each others’ differences. In a world where there are many forces that pull us apart, Strobe is a sonic beacon of hope that can unite different walks of life together in a peaceful environment. No matter your age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or political views, Strobe is for you. The Strobe EP is sonic therapy for the soul and its house of worship is the dancefloor.

The Strobe EP was created with love using 808 and 909 drum machines, modular synthesizers, and original vocals from myself, my girlfriend and my dog Diamond. Techniques of additive, subtractive and granular synthesis were applied during the creation of the EP and can be heard throughout. All sounds were created with either hardware or a living being.”

Airwave – Pray For Happiness (Original Mix)

Abraham Tilbury – ‘California’

Melbourne artist Abraham Tilbury shares his latest single ‘California’ — a moody, introspective cut of lush electronica. Combining a sparse, fractured production and undulating falsettos, a spacious track is created that gently absorbs the listener into Abraham’s inner workings.

“California highlights that change comes from within. I wrote the lyrics around a year ago, and after moving and being around less live instruments I explored excessive production and sampling techniques that would help ‘California’ flourish from its bare form.” – Abraham Tilbury

The explorative rise and fall of dramatic, filtered vocal samples are reminiscent of the latest from Bon Iver. And while the track is punctuated with random distortions and its unconventional structure, it is nevertheless anchored by a slow, predictable drum machine that gives the track a comforting rhythm, revealing of Tilbury’s ease into unfamiliar territory.

New Music: Moglii + Novaa release visuals for “Her”, from their collaborative Down Under EP

NOVAA is a singer, songwriter and producer, and at only 19 years old, comparisons have been made to highly significant and creative artists such as Björk and Grimes. Within her unique sound which draws from elements of Electronica, Folk and Pop, NOVAA creates an impactful new genre – “Organic Electronic”. Belted by her crystal clear vocals, she builds on soundscapes that float above the common ground. Past the depths of everyday things and activity she finds fragile frameworks of sounds and vibrant bass notes, forming her own musical galaxy and creating magical new worlds to explore.

Moglii and Novaa release the visuals for “Her” today. “Her” is awash with natural samples, breakbeats and a pulsating, bubbling rhythm, and is taken from their collaborative 5-track Down Under EP.

Novaa: Her is about the demonic side of yourself that you cannot live without, rather than being inlove with a person. You hate and love this demon, and as such, you struggle.

Moglii: The production relies heavily on field recordings. All the fast “clacking“ and “noise” sounds are played with pencils on a table and on my window. The deep 808 kick – used as a bass at the same time – creates a warm and muffled sound, when the beat drops. I sang the vocal samples “uhh uhhhuh”, which I pitched and played in double-time. It’s a nice mix of Novaa and my signature sounds and style.
Similarities can be drawn to YUNA, Sohn, BANKS, ANIMA!

THE STORY SO FAR
Moglii is the solo project of 23-year-old producer, singer and jazzpianist Simon Ebener-Holscher, whose definitive production style is characterised by warm beats, analogue synthesizers and soulful vocal samples. His modern electronic compositions are often supplemented by acoustic instruments and an organic soundscape, created with self-made samples – field recordings of coffee machines, shopping bags or cactuses may or may not be some of the sounds you hear.

Abraham Tilbury – ‘California’ [prepare to be blown-away in the most beautifully, delicate way ever]

Sun City – ‘Wake Up’ [lose yourself in the warm summery sounds of Sun City]

Perth electronic duo Sun City release their energetic dance cut ‘Wake Up’, giving us the second single off their forthcoming ‘Daytona EP’.
Layering dynamic analogue synths that oscillate to create fluidity throughout the track, and smokey, languid vocals, together create a sense of growth. The chorus sees the track drop into a warping, rhythmic baseline groove, coloured by distorted vocal samples.
“The story begins following a life changing event through the first verse. A time when something happens, and you feel that it can’t get any worse. But then slowly things change, the realisation sets in that there’s a choice, to stay faded or to pick yourself up and have another go. The second verse tells the story of the second half of that familiar journey, that’s full of hope and excitement ” – Sun City
‘Wake Up’ is the perfect track for putting your head down, and letting go. With a sun-drenched chorus and uplifting vocals ‘Wake Up’ will accompany carefree, summer nights and blissful days.
“The track is musically all about high energy, summer dancing and lifting you right back up to where you belong.” – Sun City
