Tiga vs Audion Return With ‘Nightclub EP’

Tiga vs Audion’s ‘Nightclub EP’ is the third release from North America’s most eloquent techno team-up, and follows the mega-hit ‘Let’s Go Dancing’ and the micro-hit ‘Fever’. The ‘Nightclub EP’ features 3 new productions: ‘Stabbed In The Back’ (lead track), ‘Pink Bells’, and ‘Nonstop’. Released as a Beatport exclusive from 7 April, early support for the EP comes from Jamie Jones, The Martinez Brothers, Boys Noize, Dubfire, Kolsch, Heidi, Gerd Janson, Erol Alkan, Michael Mayer, and more.

TIGA QUOTES
ON THE INSPIRATION
“Living in contemporary society? It’s a joke. But what’s no joke is that rough times call for rough customers, and this EP finds two top techno producers in the mood for ballsiness, reflecting the times with a harder-edged sound, harder-edged artwork, and harder-edged calls for our leaders to remember that the dance floor was built on unity, plurality, and unshacklable animality.”

ON THE TRACK TITLES
“After careful study, we came to the conclusion that the worse the titles, the more ‘techno’ the tracks. A-side ‘Stabbed in the Back’ takes its name from the fact that the track has keyboard stabs in it. Maybe my least favourite title of anything I’ve ever done, which is remarkable considering the runner-up was an unreleased stab-free track called ‘Doctors Without Keyboards.’ ‘Pink Bells’ was originally called ‘The Bells’ but I was told that this guy Geoff had already used it. ‘Nonstop’ got its name from the fact that I was really on a roll with bad titles at the time.”

ON THE CREATIVE PROCESS
“It’s extremely challenging to make instrumental techno with enough of a hook and enough of a funk to stand out, and it’s exponentially more difficult when I know deep down I could make everything alright so easily with just the sound of my voice. We bought a set of Bryan Adams Studio Flash Cards, which instructed us to make the kind of hyper-utilitarian dance tracks we could play in our own DJ sets. Sometimes, even musicians need to be reminded to put themselves first.”

Tiga returned to Turbo Recordings earlier this year with new single, ‘Eye Luv U’, his first new material since 2016’s ‘Blondes Have More Fun’. Co-produced by one half of Paranoid London, ‘Eye Luv U’ is the first in a series of releases from Tiga on Turbo in 2017.

Tiga recently dropped a new DJ mix on his SoundCloud page featuring exclusive music from both Tiga vs Audion, and Tiga, alongside Bjork, The Knife, Martinez Brothers, DJs Pareja, Justin Cudmore, Red Axes, Truncate, Solitary Dancer and more. The ‘Stereo Woke Mix – Live at StereoBar Montreal’ was recorded from his 27th January set at the Canadian club. A full tracklist is not available. soundcloud.com/tiga/stereomix2017

Now in a new partnership with !K7, Tiga’s Turbo imprint is the tastemaker label behind the early success of Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, and Duke Dumont, amongst many others. 2016 saw releases from rising stars Charlotte de Witte, ANNA, Gilmer Galibard, and Autarkic, while this year the label will shift its focus to electro, via cuts from Tiga, Audion, and Dimitri Veimar, alongside collaborative projects between Shaded & Harvard Bass.

Manu Riga and Mandy Jones collaborate for ‘Disconnected’

Manu Riga returns to Bonzai Progressive with a sublime two tracker Entitled ‘Disconnected’. This time round he enlists the stunning vocal talent of Mandy Jones who adds a whole new dynamic to the progressive sound. As ever Manu Riga delights with his attention to detail revealing his passion for quality music with everything he touches. A string of top notch cuts, a superb album and a slew of delicious remixes have made 2016 one of his best years yet and we’ve no doubt that next year will be even better. USA born Mandy Jones makes her first appearance on Bonzai and she brings her wonderfully rich and soulful voice along for the ride. Over the last few years she has released several tracks across various labels. She possesses a beautifully rich voice which she is able to adapt to suit different musical styles. Nice to see her on board and we hope to hear more from her in the future.

‘Disconnected’ intros with a very nice pounding kick drum as shuffling hats form up into a solid rhythmic flow. A deep and probing bassline soon finds its way into the sound as percussions start on their intricate journey. The track takes on a real deepness early on which is further enhanced by the stunning vocals from Mandy. Sultry, melancholic and dynamic, the vocal tells an interesting story that fits perfectly with the groove. In contrast to the deeper elements we find a sweet melodic arpeggio that washes over the sound. A definite must have that will not disappoint.

‘If Only’ is up next and we’ve no doubt that this one will become a firm favourite among many. Right from the off we’re drawn into its grasp. Nicely rounded kick drums lead the way against a very cool percussion arrangement complete with shuffling hit hats that really get the feet tapping. The big hitter here is the vocal, a simply sublime delivery with a very intriguing narrative that digs deep into your soul. The vocal blends effortlessly with the melancholic groove created by subtle tones and expert attention. Captivating and enlightening, this one is most definitely not to be missed.

Various Artists – Altered States [Flex Records]

Still basking in the spotlight of having their first vinyl release in more than a decade (FLEX 040 – Ricky Force, Real Love ) sell out before it even hits the shelves and reach no1 in the Redeye chart – L Double and his pioneering team at Flex are taking the musical stakes up a notch with their latest album – Altered States.

As the name suggests, all things USA forms the backdrop of this 23 track floor banger, blending Neuro Funk and Tech Step styles to push your sound systems and your state of consciousness to the limit.

And it is already receiving support from the biggest names in the US scene such as AK1200.

“Flex once again shows us why they have been a constant leader of the worldwide drum and bass community. This time with Altered States, an amazing compilation of American made talent. Everything from jungle to liquid rollers, steppers and even a bit of tech and neuro, this LP aims to please while showcasing the best underground artists emerging from the American scene. 10/10”

L Double’s musical influence in the US DnB/Jungle scene is profound and with the deep pool of talent the label is blessed to have crafted the LP with an exclusively all American track list featuring the US’s hardest working and talented DnB producers such as Pish Posh, The Burner Brothers, Space Journey, Liminal & Bengal, NoizeKomplaint, Mixedmedia & iLL Omen, HammerZz & Glitch.

L Double said: “You really have to listen to it, to believe how talented this mob really are. Take Space Journey as an example, it is quintessential neuro funk. Some may say the genre has not got soul but we tried to inject some into the project alongside the ‘trickery and technicality’ of the tracks. That’s what Flex is about showcasing musical talent from around the world to the world. And this album is just the start!”
